How the work is funded, and what that changes.
Published in full, because a reader is entitled to know the commercial position of anyone asking them to rely on a number.
Where the money comes from
What is available, and how it appears
| Arrangement | What it is | How it is disclosed |
|---|---|---|
| Workshops | Paid sessions applying the research inside one organisation | Not research. Never published as research |
| Commissioned research | Original research answering one question for one client | Distinct mark, labelled commissioned wherever it appears |
| Co-authored research | Collaboration with an organisation contributing data, access or expertise | Both names on the piece, with the contribution stated |
| Distribution | Placement inside work that is already published | Disclosed on the page |
The boundaries
The Landscape carries no collaboration
A category map is a comparative judgement made on behalf of a reader about to spend money. It does not survive a participant funding it.
The subject never funds the piece
A collaborator is never the subject of the research they collaborate on.
Sequence does not invert
Research publishes first. Anything commercial attaches to work that already exists.
Conflicts appear on the piece
Where an analyst holds a position in or advises an organisation named in a piece, it is stated there, not on a policy page.
The list is never sold
Subscriber data is not sold, rented or shared, including with partners and collaborators.
Corrections are public
Dated, visible and never removed. Superseded versions are preserved rather than silently edited.
Because the alternative is asking readers to take it on trust, and a research institution that asks for trust it has not shown its working for is a marketing operation with better typography.
