What we have said, and how to quote it correctly.

Everything we publish is free to quote. We ask one thing in return: carry the edition number and the compilation date with any figure, because a number from the register without its date is misleading inside a quarter.

For journalists

What you can take, and what we will give you

We answer press enquiries quickly and we will tell you when a finding is thinner than the headline would suggest.

How to quote us accurately

Three rules that keep a figure true

These exist because the most common way our research gets misreported is by dropping the qualifier, not by inventing a number.

In preparation01

Carry the date

Register counts move down as well as up, because determinations lapse at twelve months. A figure without its edition is already drifting.

Say confirmed, not verified

Confirmed means the named organization answered us. It does not mean the deployment is working well or still running today.

A zero is a finding

Where we print zero confirmed deployments, that is a statement about the evidence, not a verdict on the category.
